Following a Russian drone attack that struck the Ukrainian city of Poltava last night, new and alarming details about the масшine of destruction emerged on the morning of March 31. According to the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Djakivnych, both the number of casualties and the extent of material damage are greater than initially reported. One person was killed in the attack, while the number of injured has risen to four. Among them are two children: an 11-year-old boy who was hospitalized with serious injuries, and a girl born in 2018 who received medical assistance at the scene.
The heaviest damage occurred in the Kyivskyi district of the city, where debris from a downed drone fell directly onto a residential building. The impact was severe: the ceiling structure on the ninth floor was completely destroyed, and the shockwave shattered hundreds of windows and heavily damaged cars parked nearby. Eight residents, including families with children, have been left homeless and were temporarily accommodated in a nearby hotel.
In addition to residential areas, Russian drones struck two other locations in the city, damaging industrial facilities of one company and buildings belonging to another private enterprise. Fortunately, no casualties were reported at these sites. Emergency services and crisis response teams continue to operate at the scenes, while municipal workers are clearing debris. Residents are being provided with essential materials such as protective sheeting and wooden boards to cover broken windows. Acting Mayor Kateryna Yamshchykova has convened a meeting of the executive committee for tomorrow to decide on direct financial assistance for affected residents.
