The war in Ukraine has once again shown its cruelest face in the very places where people should feel safest – in the middle of their daily routines. While residents of Nikopol were visiting a local market on April 4, a calm afternoon was shattered by a violent attack by Russian drones. Among the victims of this senseless terror was 49-year-old Ruslan Bilotserkivskyi, whose life story ended in the middle of a working day.

Ruslan was not just a number in war statistics; he was a familiar face in the community, remembered fondly by colleagues and neighbors. He spent most of his professional life working in local companies, and in recent years he worked as a driver for the company “Dniprovski.” His colleagues describe him as an exceptionally responsible and hardworking man. He was the kind of coworker who never refused to help and whose calm nature inspired trust in everyone around him.

Beyond his professional life, Ruslan was known in his free time as a passionate technology enthusiast. His interests were computers and electronics. In Nikopol, many knew him as a man with “golden hands”; he gladly repaired devices and helped neighbors and friends solve complex technical problems. For many, he was the first person to call when a computer or phone broke down, always sharing his knowledge with a smile and without expecting anything in return.

The attack on the market in Nikopol instantly destroyed the life of a man in his prime who still had many plans. He is survived by his sister, who lost her closest relative in the attack. For his family, friends, and colleagues, his death represents not only the loss of a loved one but an irreparable void in the hearts of all who knew him.

The tragic fate of Ruslan Bilotserkivskyi is a reminder that the Russian army does not target only military objectives, but destroys the lives of ordinary people – those who build communities, fix things, and keep the world running.
