Ihar Nemirovich
Biography
Ihar Nemirovich (born January 10, 1994) is a Belarusian political prisoner. His case is a stark example of the risks faced by citizens who return to Belarus after fleeing. Initially arrested in May 2022, Nemirovich escaped from house arrest and left the country. He later returned to Belarus, hoping to resolve his status through an official commission, but was re-arrested on September 27, 2023. For "insulting the president," Judge Maryia Aliferuk sentenced him to one year in prison.
Although he was released in August 2024, he was detained once more in October of the same year. On April 8, 2025, he was sentenced to three years in a medium-security penal colony for "promoting extremist activities" under Article 361-4. In June 2025, he was added to the state's list of individuals involved in extremist activities. He is currently serving his sentence in Penal Colony No. 9 in Horki.
