Andrei Liubetski

Andrei Liubetski

Biography

Andrei Liubetski (born July 7, 1975) is a prominent Minsk-based maxillo-facial surgeon, a father of four, and a recognized political prisoner. His persecution began after he volunteered to provide medical aid near the Akrestsin detention center following the 2020 protests. His family was also targeted; his wife, Natallia, was forced to flee Belarus with their children after being falsely accused by state media of leaking classified documents.

Detained on May 4, 2021, Liubetski faced a barrage of charges, including inciting hatred and insulting both the President and government officials. On April 18, 2022, Judge Sviatlana Charapanava sentenced him to five years in prison. The Belarusian KGB later added him to the lists of "extremists" and "terrorists," a designation that strictly prohibits him from receiving any financial support while in custody.

His time in the penal system has been marked by extreme hardship. In 2024, he was subjected to punishment cell (PKT) confinement, and his detention regime was further tightened. In late 2025, he was convicted again under Article 411 for "malicious disobedience" to prison authorities. As of early 2026, he remains incarcerated in Penal Colony No. 9 in Horki, serving as a symbol of the regime's crackdown on the medical community.
