Artur Petrov, a Ukrainian stand-up comedian and serviceman of the 43rd Separate Mechanised Brigade, has been killed while evacuating wounded soldiers from the battlefield.
According to his wife Kateryna, who shared the news on Facebook, Petrov was killed on 18 March in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Kharkiv Oblast — an area that has seen intense fighting amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
Petrov joined the Ukrainian military in April 2025. In recent months, he had been serving on the front line as part of the 43rd Brigade, taking part in combat operations and rescue missions under fire.
“When he returns home, I will write about the day of the funeral. Please remember him as funny,” Kateryna wrote in a brief and emotional message.
Before the full-scale war reshaped his life, Petrov was known in Ukraine’s comedy scene. He performed stand-up and worked as a scriptwriter on the television project Ya soromlius svoho tila — the Ukrainian adaptation of the British show Embarrassing Bodies.
Ukrainian comedian Vasyl Baidak paid tribute to his colleague, recalling Petrov’s distinctive humor and presence:
“This is a huge loss. There are not enough words (…) Artur Petrov has been killed in action. I used to get so tired of hearing his joke about the pug, and how much I would like to hear it once again now. But no, because Russia is f***ing scum. When possible, we will see Artur off as soon as we can. Eternal memory to stand-up comedian Artur Petrov.”
Petrov’s death adds to the growing list of Ukrainian cultural figures who have taken up arms and lost their lives defending the country.
Earlier, Ukrainian serviceman Yaroslav “Mazhor” Chernyshev, co-founder of the military community North Side Group, was also reported killed in action.
