20-year-old woman killed, child seriously injured in Russian shelling in Sumy region

On March 28, a 20-year-old woman was killed in Russian artillery shelling in the Znob-Novhorodske community of Ukraine’s Sumy region. A six-year-old child was also injured.

The Office of the Prosecutor General and the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Kalchenko, reported the incident.

“On March 28, 2026, at around 12:00, the enemy, according to preliminary data, shelled a residential house of civilians in the Znob-Novhorodske community of the Shostka district using artillery,” the statement said.

As a result of the attack, the 20-year-old woman was killed. Her six-year-old sister sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.

Prosecutors, together with other law enforcement officers, are documenting the consequences of the shelling.

Under the procedural supervision of the Shostka District Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into a war crime resulting in death (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It is worth noting that over the past day, settlements in five districts of the Sumy region came under Russian attacks. In the Shostka district, a 58-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were injured. Residential buildings, transport, and infrastructure were damaged.
